The Cub's Angel Guzman, slated to take Marmol's place as the top setup man in the Cub's bullpen was diagnosed with a serious tear in his right shoulder. It is not known if he will miss the entire season but he will be out at least for several months. The Cub's bullpen is already very thin and Guzman's loss is a big one. Lilly is out at least a month, Cub's management has a long history of claiming pitchers will only be out a little while only to see them miss big chunks of the season, see Woods and Prior, so it is hard to tell how long he will really be out. Lilly's injury means the Cubs need to find 2 starters from the bullpen to fill out the rotation. That leaves Marmol as the closer, John Grabow as a lefty setup man and the loser of the competion for the rotation as the only three bullpen pitchers. Who the Cubs will use to fill out the bullpen is anyones guess. A team with a $140 million payroll having so many holes in the piching staff is testament to how bad the Cub's management has been.
