The Cubs and Lou Piniella named Kevin Gregg as their closer. Gregg was a so so 29 out of 38 in save opportunities last season with Florida. He also had a era of 3.41, hardly the stuff of a top closer. The Cubs should feel the loss of Kerry Wood and his 34 out of 40 performance last year. The move does keep Carlos Marmol in the setup role where he has excelled the last two seasons. The lack of confidence and snub of Marmol did seem to bother him a lot and lead him to complain that he was never given a real chance to earn the closer's spot. A seemingly unfounded claim considering Gregg's 0 era and Marmol's 4.50 this Spring. Marmol seems to be the Cubs only bright spot in the bullpen and a drop off in his performance along with a lack of other quality pitchers could make the bullpen a real weak spot for the Cubs.
